- Positively increasing the online profile of the Charity
- Posting regular updates about the charity, events and related information, with content being tailored to the needs of the charity

Provoking Emotions
WRS can be involved in issues that provoke strong emotions. The Charity Commission allows engagement on emotive issues, if this is a way of achieving charitable purpose and is in the charity’s best interests.
However, the following should be considered
- Risks to the Charity -including its reputation, and actions you can take to mitigate these. These include informing Trustees/Operations Manager of your plans and thinking about how the charity’s conduct on social media may help manage potential criticism
- Impact on Resources and Team – E.G. receiving a significant number of complaints or negative comments/online abuse, how that affects moral, support from the public and fundraising
Sharing Content Safely
Whilst the charity has control over what is shared, it doesn’t necessarily have control over who sees it. It’s important to think about who might be seeing content, and if that content might be triggering to people online.
WRS Social Media Policy makes it clear that the charity will not post or share content which is ‘harmful’.
The guidance explains that ‘what may be harmful to one person might not be considered an issue by someone else, however the UK Safer Internet Centre defines harmful content in simple terms as ‘anything online which causes a person distress or harm.
If you think you have the skills necessary, and wish to become part of our growing charity, please contact the Operations Manager ian.atkinson@weremembersubmariners.com in the first instance.
All WRS team members are required to complete a DBS check and attend Safeguard Training (both provided by the Charity).
